Welcome to Putlands Veterinary Surgery
First established in 1977, we are a small animal practice in Paddock Wood, Kent. Our practice is easily accessible, with disabled access and on-site parking.
Alongside our facilities and specialist equipment, our friendly and experienced veterinary team provide the highest quality of veterinary care, surgery and treatment – along with regular check-ups and routine procedures. We accept referrals for cardiology. We also offer large animal and equine services within the practice, including emergency and out of hours care.
We are a close-knit team passionate about the wellbeing and care of our patients and treat them as if they are our own pets.

Emergency support
In the event of an emergency during our normal opening hours, please call the practice and you will be advised what to do next.
For equine and farm emergency/out of hours support, please call our large animal On Call number on 07860 496302. Alternatively, you can contact our small animal emergency support provider Pet Emergency Treatment Services Ltd (PETS) and they will inform one of our large animal team of your situation. The team will then contact you with next steps.

If your call is during the night or at the weekend whilst our practice is closed, please contact Pet Emergency Treatment Services (PETS).
Pet Emergency Treatment Services (PETS) are a dedicated emergency service with full-time night staff who will be alert and effective even at unsociable hours. Their qualified vets and nurses have a special interest, experience and training in all aspects of urgent critical care.
Their caring team are available to provide free telephone advice in the event that you feel that your pet may need urgent care, and they will provide you with an emergency consultation at the Out of Hours clinic if your pet needs to be seen.

Our Services
Consultations with our vets and nurses can be for routine check ups or arranged for a specific new or ongoing health concerns. Consultations are by appointment only.
Nobody expects an emergency; thankfully we have vets available to help, any time of the day or night via our Out of Hours service providers.
Our trained vets and nurses can perform a full dental check, identifying any dental disease, its severity and making a recommendation for treatment. We have the facilities to perform dental procedures on-site.
We can perform lab work such as blood tests and imaging such as ultrasound and x-rays in practice that will help us diagnose more complex conditions.
Microchips allow your pet to be identified if it gets lost and is a legal requirement for some pets. We can microchip your pet quickly and safely using a special needle.
Performed by our vets, neutering is a routine surgical procedure which removes a pet’s ovaries or testicles, so they are no longer able to breed.
Our highly trained nurses run many routine healthcare clinics. They have a vast knowledge and experience when it comes to keeping your pets happy and healthy.
We can provide you with full anti-parasitic treatment to help prevent your pets being infected with fleas, worms, ticks, lice and mites.
We offer a range of commonly performed surgeries such as neutering and lump removals in our theatres onsite.
We administer annual essential vaccinations for your pets as well as any needed for travelling abroad. Our vaccination appointments always include a physical examination to ensure your pet is healthy.
Referral Service
We can perform detailed cardiology assessments of the heart and blood vessels. This can include blood pressure measurements, echocardiographs, ECG recording, x-rays and blood tests.

We can perform keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery which is less painful than open surgery and helps reduce recovery times of your pets.

Some of our vets are specifically interested in exotic species, meaning they can offer a GP service including basic health checks, routine healthcare and advice to exotic pets.
We can quickly and easily take your pet’s blood pressure to check for hypertension (high blood pressure); this is recommended in all pets over 8 years old.
Blood samples may be required to diagnose a problem, monitor response to treatment, or even for preventative healthcare. These can often be taken by a veterinary nurse.
Run by our nursing team, diabetic care clinics monitor your pet’s diabetes care including discussing diabetes management and taking essential measurements such as body weight, water intake, appetite, and glucose levels.
End of life care (palliative care) focuses on keeping your comfortable as possible in their later years or if they have an incurable condition.
We are here to help and support you through the hard decision of putting your pet to sleep. Our team can answer any questions about the process and what happens afterwards.
Our veterinary nurses are not stylists but can provide some grooming services to make sure your pets are comfortable such as removing matts and nail clipping.
We have qualified Official Veterinarians who can provide you with the essential documents needed to travel abroad with your pet including Animal Health Certificates.
A six-month health check assesses your pet’s overall wellbeing including their weight, dental hygiene, grooming, behaviour, and any need for parasite control. It ensures your pet is healthy and can provide preventative treatment.
We can empty your dog’s anal sac if they become impacted, inflamed or infected. Often, this can be manually done by a nurse but sometimes will require additional treatment.
If circumstances mean you are unable to visit our practice, our vets and nurses can provide veterinary care to your pet at your home.
