Find out more about The Healthy Pet ClubWhat is pet insurance?
Pet insurance is there to protect your pet should they develop an unexpected illness or have an accident. With the average pet insurance claim standing at £777 in 2022 (ABI, 2023), it’s good to know that your pet is covered without having to worry about the financial burden of a surprise veterinary bill.
Types of pet insurance policies available:
- Lifetime policies: Lifetime policies offer a far more comprehensive level of cover for your pet. These policies will offer a fixed amount of veterinary fee cover which will be renewed every policy year, so long as you remain on the same policy with the same provider. Lifetime cover will ensure that your pet can receive lifelong treatment should they have a condition such as diabetes or arthritis.
- Annual policies: Annual cover, also known as ‘time-limited’, is quite literally that - cover that lasts for one calendar year. Once the year is up, any cover for an illness or injury that occurred in that policy year will come to an end.

To help your pet get access to the best care if they fall ill or get injured, all of our practices recommend you consider pet insurance. Please ask for details about insurance from any member of staff.
Please be aware that it is your responsibility to determine your level of insurance cover and have knowledge of any exclusions, also to reclaim the fees that you have paid to the practice from your insurance company. In certain circumstances when clients do not have the funds to make payment in full, arrangements can be made with your insurer to make their payment directly to the practice, but this only applies to certain insurance companies and then only with larger claims. We would need evidence of your policy and payment of your excess before treatment starts under this agreement. Direct claims for ongoing conditions must be made monthly. Please ask for details if you would like to be considered for this facility. All claims are subject to an administration charge.
